That this work should have reached its thirteenth edition speaks very well for its original author and aJo, for its present editor, under whose guidance new editions have been produced more frequently to meet aQ increasing demand. Throughout this book of five hundred odd pages a Jery high standard is maintained, due probably to the lact that each section is written by an expert and a.lways it is the practical side which is being emphasized. . With such an abundance of sound advice it is almost lnvidious to pick out any particular section for praise "rout those by the editor on the management of bdominal and genito-urinary cases, the sections on Urgical thoracic diseases and post-operative pulmonary ?mplications, and the section written by Mr. Gabriel J1 the rectum, are some that do deserve special Mention. One would have liked to have seen more details ?out Leriche's injection of local anaesthetic for the eatment of minor orthopaedic injuries?similarly atuW might have been given about transfusion of blood
